Before even making contact with the grass at MetLife Stadium, Kayvon Thibodeaux was already reaching for his right knee.
When the great rookie outside linebacker for the New York Giants collapsed to the ground during the second quarter of their preseason game, it was a scenario straight out of the New York Giants’ worst nightmare. The team’s medical staff rushed to his side as soon as they saw what had happened. Thibodeaux was offered a ride in the cart when it arrived, but he declined it and opted to go to the blue medical tent instead, where he was given a more thorough examination.
Thibodeaux, who was selected fifth overall in this year’s NFL draught, was officially ruled out of the game by the Giants with a knee injury; however, he appeared to be joking with teammates on the sideline before heading into the locker room. Thibodeaux was the fifth overall pick in this year’s NFL draught. The initial impression was that the Giants may have escaped a potentially disastrous situation here.
According to two people who have knowledge of the matter and spoke to NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network, the Giants are hopeful that Thibodeaux avoided a serious knee injury after the initial exam, which was performed on his knee. The fact that Thibodeaux could not participate in tonight’s game was not necessarily an indication of how serious the injury was. On Monday morning, he will go through additional testing and evaluation in order to have a better idea of how serious an injury he has sustained and how much time he will need to recuperate from it.
When he grabbed at his knee, there was an immediate concern that it was a non-contact injury; however, this turned out not to be the case. Replays revealed that Bengals tight end Thad Moss, son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss, dove at Thibodeaux’s right knee in what appeared to be an attempt at a cut block. A cut block is a legal play in these conditions, even though it appeared to be unnecessary.
Thibodeaux was able to leave the stadium without displaying any obvious limp or requiring any assistance, and his message to the assembled reporters in the hallway outside the locker room was a positive one: “I’m good. I will be coming back. We good. Good news. We hope that everything is going well for you.
On Monday afternoon, further light should be shed on the subject of how encouraging the information regarding Thibodeaux will ultimately turn out to be.
Daniel Jones, quarterback for the Giants, remarked that he thought it was a really scary moment when it happened. When it comes to other people, you never want to see them fail. We’ll have to wait and see, and that was a challenging play. You were able to discern the block and the impact that occurred there.
